I was born in Gloucester then went all over the place until ending under the TV masts of Crystal Palace in South London. I had several jobs, then got married and moved to Leighton Buzzard where I raised a family and worked as a part-time secretary first to a publican and then to a boatyard until 2001 when I became a Lady of Leisure. Now I just take the time to enjoy life.

I discovered the canals in the early 1970's when most boatyards would not hire a boat to an all-male crew, so I was taken along as a Token Female. I even spent most of my honeymoon on a hire-boat (in the drought of 1976) with my husband and 6 other men. Have a look at my canal pages to read about some of my exploits on the canals, mainly on my 67-ft narrow boat "Keeping Up".

My boyfriend in the early 1970's used to ride a motor bike, and often helped a local amateur radio group take their equipment to the top of mountains. It was on such a radio competition in the Berwyn mountains that I met my husband Allan who was a keen radio amateur, holding the callsign G3XJO.

Allan and I have lived in the Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes area for most of our 40+ years of married life. Our two children have grown up and left home; Frodo lives with his wife Galadriel and their two children in Lothlorien, and Vicki lives near Peterborough with her husband Paul and our grand-daughter Lauren. Have a look at our Family pages for more details and pictures of them as well as our dogs (currently Molly and Telford)

We have spent most of our holidays on the canals, but once the children grew up we managed to venture further afield, the particular highlights being the Norwegian Fjords, the Gota Canal in Sweden, the American North-east, across Europe by Rhine and Danube, the Alaskan Coast, Russia, and Antarctica. For highlights and pictures from these and other far-flung locations, see our Holiday pages.
