The Nubians are a race distinct from the Egyptians, with darker skin and hair and features more African than middle-Eastern. Their customs are different from those of the Egyptians in almost every respect. They occupied the area from Aswan to the Sudan, concentrating near the River Nile, from ancient times until the construction of the Aswan dam which caused Lake Nasser to flood their lands. Almost the entire race was displaced to newly-built settlements in Upper Egypt, but they remain to this day a noble race, proud of their heritage.

Footnote: Both the Nubians and the Egyptians that we met talked of two different races, but some scientists have recently suggested that they may in fact be descendants of a common ancient race.
