Seth killed his brother Osiris and cut him into 14 pieces which were scattered all over Egypt and beyond. His wife Isis collected all the pieces (except one - she had to make him an artificial penis) and briefly resurrected him so that she could become pregnant by him and bear his son. He went on to become the God of the Underworld.

This triptych (each picture is about 20 ft square) represents the resurrection: in the first picture he lies dead, in the second, Isis weaves her magic, and in the third he has raised one leg to show that he is alive.
