Easter Monday, 28th March 2005; at mid-day there was a grand Opening Ceremony for Phase I of the restoration of the Wendover Arm.
This phase reaches from the old stop-lock, under the rebuilt Little Tring bridge, round the first bend to a new full length winding point. Phase II will start from there.
It was a gloriously sunny day and an enthusiastic crowd of people had gathered to see David Suchet, patron of the Wendover Arm Trust, declare the new stretch open. After the two boats had passed through the lock, breaking the ribbon, they proceeded to the far end of the new section of canal, followed by a small trip boat full of other worthies. The canal was then opened to all boats, and the trip boat shuttled people backwards and forwards.
Keeping Up was about the 8th boat to navigate the new section. We feel very proud.
